Soules Chapel Cemetery is situated in the community of Soules Chapel, Texas.
The community, located approximately 15 miles northwest of Gilmer on FM 556 in Upshur County, grew up around the Soules Chapel Methodist Church which was established in the 1850s.
The church and community were named in honor of Rev. Joshua W. Soule, a highly-regarded and influential bishop in the Methodist Episcopal Church South, who had visited East Texas in 1846.
