 is situated  in the community

 of Soules Chapel, Texas.

The community, located approximately 15 miles northwest of Gilmer on FM 556 in Upshur County, grew up around the Soules Chapel Methodist Church which was  established in the 1850s. 

Rev. Bishop Joseph W. Soule

The church and community were named in honor of Rev. Joshua W. Soule, a highly-regarded and influential bishop in the Methodist Episcopal Church South, who had visited East Texas in 1846.
